What was once broken is now healed!! :)
ANKLE (the broken part) IS HEALED!!!
There is something weight lifting about being fully cleared by the doctor. It has been just about two weeks before I cleared myself, via the advice of my physical therapist and my own knowledge of my body. I've done this before, with my hip surgery back in December 2015 but same as then it isn't until the doctor gave the 100% go that I felt the weight of the incident lift off my shoulders.
Today, at almost exactly 8 weeks since the accident, I visited with the orthopedic surgeon to go over new x-rays. Today, these x-rays showed that the bone had healed and I was given the go ahead to do whatever I wanted.
It was amazing the weight that lifted when he pulled up the x-rays and was able to point out that the bone had healed. I think up until that moment I was still hesitant to whether I should be running or not. Up until that moment I still had those lingering thoughts that he would pull up the x-ray and say still not healed.
There is still a lot going on in regards to the accident with settlements, and physical therapy appointments all going on simultaneously to starting back up with Ironman training so there is still a lot going on (when is there not). However, the important thing is that my body has healed and I am able to get back to doing the things that I love to do, that make me feel normal.
I celebrated this excitement with a quick 4 mile run, pretty sure I ran with a slight smile, and for the first time I didn't worry that every twinge, ache, or discomfort caused from running on a rehabbing ankle was the fracture.
As I have mentioned a couple of times I still have a lot of work to do; four miles is great but I need to be able to run 26 after a 112 mile bike run in about 60 days from now. But for now I am excited to have learned that bone has healed and continue moving forward with closing that chapter of life and moving down the next part of it.
HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!!! Thanks for letting me share my news with you!!
