Creating a Road Map from Your Goals
Goal setting is a powerful process that helps guide you along whatever journey it is that you want to go on. However, often what happens is we stop at creating the goal. We come up with the goal, the dream, the “thing”, etc that we want to strive and reach for yet we don’t come up with the path to get to it. Having goals is amazing because they can do so much for us but if we don’t create actionable daily habits that help guide us towards that goal then it will make it infinitely harder for us to obtain that goal.
Before we get into the process of creating a road map (video below if you want to just jump to that) I want to remind you of what a goal is:
•A concrete “thing” that you set into motion with action and attainable steps you use to obtain that goal.
•multi-dimensional and ever changing.
•Proper goal setting can allow you to properly plan for your “season” or give you a plan of action.
•Fuel for our ambition. A goal is a dream that we put into action and those dreams fuel us to keep moving forward.
The benefits of not only having goals but creating a goal map that provides you with daily actions are as follows:
- Gives you long term vision and focus
- Keeps you motivated
- Helps you to organize your time
- Help us to believe in ourselves
- Keep you accountable
- Promotes Self-Mastery
When creating a goal road map I like to start from the start with the goal and work backwards, figuring out each and every little piece that it takes to get towards that goal and breaking the goal down into sub categories and sub “goals”. Each of these levels allows for actionable items that help give you daily things to work towards that keep you on the path towards that goal. Below is a video explaining and providing an example of how to create a goal road map in which you work backwards from your big scary goal all the way down to the little action items that you can use to help guide you on a daily basis towards working towards your goals.
