Mindset Shift on Racing and Training in 2020
From an athlete standpoint 2020 has been tough. Races keep getting postponed over and over, and goals keep having to be shifted. It sucks, there is no other way to put it.
It is hard to not get down in the dumps when you have worked so hard yet continually see something slip out of your fingers, or at least have it feel like it is. I think it’s safe to say we all miss the feeling of racing; we miss the nervous energy, the excitement, the camaraderie, the joy, the pain, and the feeling of accomplishment that we just did something awesome.
I know that I am . For me, Kona 2018 was the last time I raced a full distance Ironman, which is my favorite distance, and it’s the last time I was able to race to my full potential. For while I did get to race in 2019 it was totally different as I was pregnant for each and every single race I participated in. So yes... I miss racing a WHOLE LOT!!! And seeing the continuing postponement of races is hard. It’s frustrating. It’s disappointing.
BUT.... it’s also OK!!! Racing isn’t cancelled it’s just moved. It’s just postponed. When I finally absorbed that thought process it was extremely freeing for me. It allowed me to move past the postponement each time they came through and just say, that’s ok I’m gonna just keep being me and keep pushing hard!! Letting go of racing also allowed me to get excited about other training challenges; and I’ve got some fun ones coming up!!!
Check out the video below for more on these thoughts and the mindset shift that was so powerful for me this year in regards to racing and training in 2020.
