Starting Over

Vacation is now over for the husband and myself.  We spent ten lovely days in Cabo at the Hilton in celebration of our one year anniversary.  The trip was supposed to be a combo of celebrating finishing Ironman and our one year, however due to the accident that changed a little bit.

While I did not race at Ironman Couer d’Alene I did go out there to watch for a couple hours.  I had thought about using this article to talk about the emotions that encompassed me upon being sidelined for the race however I decided that rather than talking about the past its time to look to the future.  Looking back is a good thing as it allows you to see how far you’ve come yet dwelling on the past will not allow you to move forward, so no more dwelling.

Cabo was wonderfully relaxing.  Neither one of us realized how much we needed the vacation until we were there.

While in Cabo we spent the majority of our time laying in the sun, reading books.  Some may say our vacation was a bit boring however for us it was perfect, each day went a little something like this:

  • Wake up, go get coffee
  • work out at our leisure
  • Eat breakfast
  • spend the next four to five hours in the sun, reading, and swimming
  • Work out for the second time
  • Eat dinner
  • walk on the beach
  • go to bed – we were in bed by nine every night

So boring? Maybe, but as I said for us it was perfect.  We did golf on our anniversary, or rather Brandon golfed as I am not good enough yet, at a beautiful golf course called Punta Pamilla.  We were there for the first tee time so as Brandon was hitting balls on the driving range we watched the sun come up.

Then on the last evening we rode horses on the beach.  Magical, I think so.

Besides the vacation I have news, not necessarily new information, but I have decided to shoot for racing on November 20th down in Arizona alongside my dear friend Anna, giving me exactly three months to be ready for Ironman.  So with vacation over Ironman training started in full swing.

Three months is a little bit daunting since I took a five week break in order to recover from the accident.  My concern in being ready does not stem from my ability to swim or ride the distances as I have a great base for both of these and despite the 5 weeks off I know that my body will bounce back quickly.  It is the running that concerns me, as I am unsure how my ankle will handle running.  On vacation I gave running a try twice; it went well for the duration of the run, no pain, afterwards my ankle was seriously irritated for a couple of days.

On top of not being ready there are two things I am nervous to start doing; 1) riding on the road and 2) running.  Both are nerves I know that I will get over I just have to take that leap of faith and go for it.
